Members of our Construction and Engineering Team have been involved in a number of high-profile projects. Highlights include:

  • working with a global US law  firm to provide UK construction law advice and due diligence in:
    • acting for two of Sweden’s leading pension funds forming a joint venture with a US pension fund  to own and purchase commercial real estate in London (existing buildings and ongoing developments)
    • acting for a US REIT on its £153m  acquisition and funding of a UK-based care home business including development property assets comprising 11 care homes and a development programme for a further 10 sites representing c.£90m  of construction works
    • acting for an Italian fund acquiring London real estate
  • advising a student accommodation provider on the suite of construction contracts and satisfying lender construction security requirements for six UK student accommodation development schemes in Bristol, Newcastle, Nottingham and three schemes in Cardiff, representing approximately £140m of construction works
  • advising a water utility company on its AMP6 framework procurement agreements for 2015-2020, based on an NEC form of contract
  • acting for a global telecoms infrastructure provider in negotiating a framework agreement with Vodafone for the building and maintenance of fibre-optic networks supporting its telecommunications business in the UK, incorporating aspects of an amended standard form NEC3 contract
  • advising developers building brand hotels on city-centre sites with restricted access, preparing and negotiating the full suite of documents, including building contracts, professional appointments and collateral warranties
  • advising a senior lender on all construction elements for a PFI  leisure centre scheme of approximately £30m  build costs
  • advising lenders on the suite of construction documents (such as collateral warranties and underlying construction documents) that provide security during the build stage across a range of industrial and residential developments
  • advising a supplier of advanced testing systems to the global motor industry on the construction a new manufacturing facility
  • advising corporate occupier clients on fit-out contracts and associated construction agreements for new headquarters, office premises and manufacturing plants, including a £2m fit-out of a client’s global headquarters in London

Building cranes in the sky

Thrings’s Construction Team, led by Partner, Eric Livingston, advised Fusion Students on the £19m refurbishment of Froomsgate House. The project involved converting a former office building into luxury student accommodation in the centre of Bristol.
