Building long-term, sustainable success

For landowners, renting land for renewables developments can help secure reliable, long-term revenue. We have the knowledge and expertise to support you across a range of matters – whether drafting and negotiating contracts or seeking to use on-site renewables to reduce your carbon emissions, secure your energy supply and manage energy costs.
Whatever your objectives, we listen carefully to provide clear direction to you and your business, working with you to resolve any complexities that arise during project planning and execution. We can also utilise our network of expert consultants in areas such as land agency, accountancy and tax to ensure maximum assistance to you.

In response to the ever-changing renewables sector, developers and their professional advisors are finding innovative ways to work and structure deals to ensure the viability of projects going forwards. This is particularly pertinent in light of subsidy cuts, grid constraints and planning difficulties. With significant experience acting for developers, we can work with you to help you overcome some of these challenges.

Our Renewables Team has been involved in a number of high-profile and significant matters. Highlights include:

  • completing on the sale of Wroughton Airfield Solar Park, one of the UK’s largest solar farms with 41MW of installed capacity
  • negotiating lease terms on behalf of the owners of a 230-acre farm in Oxfordshire for the development of what was then the UK’s largest solar farm
  • completing on a lease and ancillary documents for a hydro electricity generator, cable route and pipeline for a project in Wales
  • negotiating option, lease and finance documents on one of the largest  community wind farms in Wales, which now has planning permission, grid connection and Feed-in Tariff secured

  • negotiating several Deeds of Variation and Supplemental Agreements to allow developers to share renewables projects with community groups
  • acting for commercial and agricultural landowners on numerous ground-mounted solar farm and wind farm developments as well as rooftop solar projects
  • negotiating options and leases for battery storage, including those required for entry into the Capacity Market auctions

Our expertise in this area encompasses:

  • drafting and negotiating option agreements, leases, deeds of variation, wayleave agreements, deeds of grant and ancillary documents with funders including direct agreements and certificates of title
  • property and commercial due diligence, prior to securing a site and prior to acquiring a project
  • drafting and negotiating asset purchase agreements, power purchase agreements and connection agreements
  • drafting and negotiating EPC contracts, and renewables construction, operation and maintenance agreements

  • reviewing existing partnerships, joint venture and company structures
