Robert is a litigation partner specialising in disputes for agriculture clients. In his spare time he loves to get away from it all with a holiday in the sun.
Tell us a little about what you do?
I’m a partner in the Agriculture team at Thrings, which I’m proud to say is top-ranked in the legal directories. My particular areas of specialism is disputes, with a particular focus on partnership disputes in farming businesses, and wider farm inheritance issues. I specialise in proprietary estoppel – cases where someone believes a promise has been broken in relation to their claim on land or property.
How do you relax when you’re not working?
I love travelling – my favourite holiday destinations would be the Algarve for the sunshine and Dublin for the atmosphere and the Guinness. I’d say the best place I’ve ever travelled to would be The Maldives, for the tranquillity.
What was the last time you did something for the first time?
I’m currently working on my first Supreme Court hearing, which is due to be held later this year.
Name one thing that helps make your day better?
Simple – biscuits!
And what would you choose as your last meal?
That would have to be a good ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce.
What advice would you give your younger self?
The same advice I would give anyone – “Work hard, and good things will happen.”
Finally, name somebody – living or dead – who you would invite to your fantasy dinner party?
That would be Sir Tasker Watkins – described during his lifetime as the “greatest living Welshman”. As well as being a Welsh Lord Justice of Appeal and deputy Lord Chief Justice, he was President of the Welsh Rugby Union and was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry during the Second World War. I think we’d find plenty to talk about!
