Food-loving Kathryn calls herself a mad dog lady and collects special bears from Peru. But beware don’t give her a marmalade sandwich or be rude to her…
Tell us a little about your work?
I'm a family solicitor, predominantly dealing with divorce and financial matters. Although I’ve been practising law for 28 years, I actually only joined Thrings in 2020 – just two weeks before lockdown. What a challenge that is starting a new job and not really meeting many of the people you work with!
I love my job. I love helping people, who when they come to me are in a low state, and we go on this choppy journey together where I see them grow in confidence, become more independent and empowered. It’s a real privilege.
I believe the only way you can do this is to build a strong working relationship with your clients, building that trust and being able to speak in a normal language without all the legal jargon.
Tell us something about yourself that is not widely known?
As well as being a bit of a mad dog lady (at most I’ve owned four dogs), I’ve also become a home for retired bears!
During lockdown I found myself ‘rescuing’ my beloved Paddington Bears. People would sell their unloved bears and I would buy them, renovate them and then use them all around the house as door stops!
Where is your favourite spot in the world?
It has to be Thailand. I first visited 16 years ago with my husband and two boys aged seven and nine. It was amazing. We were initially inspired to go because of our love for Thai cuisine. But the simplicity of life over there, coupled with the sheer humility of the beautiful people, has taken us back at least eight or nine times since. Oh, and the elephants…
Name someone – living or dead – who you would like to invite to your fantasy dinner party?
The comedian Peter Kay – what a genius! His ability to breakdown people’s behaviours shows an incredible insight and intelligence. He also makes me cry with laughter!
What, if anything, makes your blood boil?
Rudeness – there’s just no excuse for it!
Describe yourself in three words?
Approachable. Loyal. Moral.
