Conor Melvin, Associate, Corporate
What motivated you to become a lawyer?
I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to start studying law at school when I was 14, and I was hooked straight away, going on to study my law degree and then a master’s degree in International Law. I enjoy the problem-solving element of being a lawyer and the inherently technical side of the law but our job is to distil that into commercial and practical solutions for our clients.
Why do you specialise in corporate law?
In the corporate team we get to know and understand our clients, their businesses and how they operate really well. You need to enjoy business and be commercially minded to make a good corporate lawyer, and it’s that side of things which attracted me to that area of the law.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I’m also a town councillor for my home town, and currently serve as the Deputy Mayor, which keeps me busy. It’s really great being able to get involved in the local community and the various events going on, and I’d encourage everyone to do the same – there’s always more going on then you first realise!
If you weren't a lawyer what would you do?
I enjoy travelling and animals/wildlife, so I would probably have either been a pilot or vet.
