She plays an important role in our Banking and Finance team, and is experienced at dealing with vanilla lending documents and complex property finance aspects of transactions. Her advice covers a variety of matters, from acquisitions and disposals of properties to commercial leases of office and retail premises, particularly in Prime Central London. Karen has been advising clients including investors, lenders, owner-occupiers and entrepreneurs for over 20 years.

Banking and Finance

During her career in Banking and Finance law, Karen has advised many well-known lenders including Santander, NatWest, RBS and HSBC. In many cases, she manages transactions where lending is against portfolios of more than 20 properties being charged at the same time, and she has advised lenders on taking security over portfolios in an efficient and orderly way. She also specialises in advising private banks providing funding to high net worth individuals in situations where offshore companies, family trusts or an SIPP are often involved, and she is well-known among surveyors for her work in this field.

Karen's expertise also covers recoveries and enforcement. She has helped clients through appointment of LPA receivers, administrators or liquidators, and she has advised lenders where a defaulting borrower is based offshore.

Karen's relevant experience includes:

  • advising a major developer with the refinancing of its property portfolio worth £50m
  • advising various high street lenders on taking security over portfolios of properties
  • providing specialist advice to lenders on bespoke lending proposals including offshore elements, trusts and SVPs
  • successfully assisted lenders where a defaulting borrower is based offshore
  • advising banks on recoveries and enforcement, in relation to appointment of LPA receivers, administrators or liquidators
