Private Client

Karen’s specialist knowledge in supporting elderly people make decisions about their future is integral to our Private Client team. She guides clients through succession planning, particularly in arranging provisions to cover care fees. Much of her work also involves tax planning, and she gives clients with complex estates clear advice on how to best to structure their assets using various legal frameworks.

Karen’s relevant experience includes:

  • acting for a client to reduce a large inheritance tax liability through a Deed of Variation
  • advising a client through drafting their Will and re-structuring their assets with the use of trusts to ensure care fees would not be an issue for the surviving spouse
  • advising a client with no immediate family how to arrange her finances to afford care as her health deteriorated, and subsequently acting as the executor of her Will to deal with the administration of her estate
  • administering a large estate that had various charities as the beneficiaries, which involved managing the expectations of each organisation
  • dealing with a large estate involving a second wife and children from the first marriage to make sure all parties were satisfied with the administration, which included implementing an on-going trust to protect the wife while preserving assets in the trust for the children
