Holly is an Senior Associate in the Succession and Tax team, primarily based in the Romsey and Swindon offices, having joined Thrings in January 2022.

With expertise that also covers matters concerning Trusts and Tax, Holly advises clients on a range of private client areas. Her talent extends to assisting with the preparation of crucial personal documents, such as Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, as well as the roles and responsibilities of personal representatives.

Holly is experienced in assisting with the administration of estates for the deceased, helping their families through a difficult and emotional time.

Wills and Estate Planning

  • Advising clients on the use of Trusts in Wills, issues surrounding the appointment of Executors, Trustees and Guardians, the inclusion of legacies (specific, pecuniary and charitable), options concerning personal chattels, funeral directions and referring clients to funeral plan consultants where required, the impact of marriage/civil partnerships and divorce.

Powers of Attorney

  • Advising clients on both types of Lasting Powers of Attorney and the differences between Lasting and Enduring Powers of Attorney, with the ability to register the latter. Making clients aware of how extensive their Attorney’s powers are, and the possibility of including conditions or guidance in the Power itself.
  • Considering the appropriateness of engaging with other professionals for the purpose of establishing a client’s mental capacity. Liaising with those professionals, giving clear instructions as to the client’s objectives and the rationale behind the approach.
  • Dealing with the administration of Trusts or, where necessary, the winding up of Trusts. And understanding the Reporting requirements of the Trusts.

Administration of Estates

  • Managing and working on Probate files, ranging from straightforward to complex estates, considering and dealing with the estate’s income tax and capital gains tax for the administration period.
  • Completing IHT accounts and drafting probate application papers, applying for Grants of Probate or Letters of Administration through the online portal. Working holistically with accountants and financial advisors throughout the administration period.

Contentious Matters

  • Considering the validity of Wills when there is doubt over testamentary capacity and acting as an intermediary when relationships between Executors and Beneficiaries breakdown.
