Thrings corporate team support life insurance specialist’s growth through acquisition of ‘disruptor’ firm

Thrings business matter buying a business

The Thrings corporate team advised life insurance specialist Clark UK in a multi-million-pound deal which added to its growing portfolio of innovative brands.

The transaction, completed in 2023, saw Bristol-based Clark UK and its German parent company Clark Holdings SE acquire Anorak Technologies, a protection sales firm described by Verdict Magazine as “the long-awaited disruptor of life insurance”.

The deal also involved the acquisition of Anorak Technologies’ world-first software platform that enables distributors to sell protection products at scale.

A team from Thrings’ Corporate division, including Partners John Richardson, Elaine Meyrick and Natalie Ward, Senior Associate Naomi Butler and Associate Matt Cornforth, provided key legal guidance to Clark UK’s CFO Joshua Sargent and his team.

The transaction process was complex, involving regulated entities on each side, and needed the approval of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to be finalised.

The Thrings team has a long-standing relationship with Clark UK, advising on a range of commercial and real estate issues.

More recently, Thrings advised Clark UK on the acquisition of life insurance broker That’s Life Group Ltd in a deal that concluded on New Year’s Day.
