Surveyors to brush up on dilapidations disputes at RICS seminar

The pair will offer practical tips to RICS members – including South West-based building surveyors – on pursuing and defending dilapidations claims at the event, which takes place at the Novotel Bristol Centre on 8 February.

During their presentations, Warren - who is also head of property litigation at Thrings – and Matthew will discuss some of the options available to landlords facing tenants who have failed to comply with their repairing obligations.

They will also consider the position of tenants whose landlords are preparing to take action during the lease term.

A recent update of the Civil Procedure Rules confirms that courts will continue to actively encourage and promote Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a means of settling property litigation disputes. The participating surveyors will be given the tools to assess when ADR is the appropriate course of action and which techniques to adopt.

Among other topics on the agenda will be repairing obligations under renewed agreements and VAT in relation to dilapidations.

Organised by RICS – the world’s leading professional body for qualifications and standards in land, property and construction - the dilapidations seminar will deliver one hour of regionally-focused CPD learning.
