Countryfile’s Adam Henson announced as guest speaker for Thrings Agriculture Seminar

Thrings Agriculture seminar 2024

Strategies for helping the UK’s rural sector to grow together are at the forefront of the conversation for Thrings’ Agriculture Seminar next month.

Returning to the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, the seminar follows 2023’s full house event which saw more than 200 farmers and rural professionals in attendance – with registration now open.

This year’s instalment features a very special keynote speaker with BBC Countryfile presenter and farmer Adam Henson set to discuss the challenges facing the rural sector as well as the potential opportunities and the strategies available to achieving them.

With a broadcasting career spanning more than two decades, Adam has become one of the country’s prominent voices in the world of Agriculture, having also worked on the likes of Farming Today, as well as releasing a successful series of farming-related books.

Most recently, Adam has been at the helm of podcast Keeping on Track, which focuses on supporting the mental wellbeing of farmers across the country. You can find out more about the podcast, sponsored by Thrings, here.

Also on the agenda for the event will be talks from Thrings’ legal experts, with insight into a range of topics impacting the world of agriculture:

  • Following a well-received environmentally focused discussion last year, Harvey Davies and Jonathan Thompsonwill host a discussion on the latest environmental opportunities open to farmers and the significance of Natural Capital projects to farming income;
  • Planning expert Fred Quartermain will set out what the latest changes to planning legislation mean for the agricultural sector;
  • The recent changes to the Electronics Communications Code and their impact on rural landowners will be the topic of an update from property litigator Simon McIlroy;
  • Fresh from her appearance in Farmers Weekly’s latest Business Clinic Webinar, Sam Doherty will be joined by Gemma Goode to discuss succession planning and how to successfully hand over the farm;
  • Agricultural litigators Richie Rees and Lara Williamson will be explaining how landowners can unlock housing and development opportunities through the removal of restrictive covenants;
  • Family law expert Kate Barber will be discussing the possibilities for amicable divorce and how it can help ensure the future of the family farming business.

Adam Henson said: “With the ever-changing face of agriculture and the rural domain, industry leaders need plan carefully to stay ahead of the game. I'm delighted to join Thrings for their Agriculture Seminar to share our business’ journey and join in on what is a great opportunity to network and discuss the future challenges and opportunities in our sector.”

Duncan Sigournay, Thrings’ Head of Agriculture and the Chair of the seminar, added: “The line-up for this year’s seminar is arguably the most comprehensive we have ever had and, with more than 200 guests already registered to attend, we are really looking forward to fantastic discussions with our guests on the day.

We’ll be looking at some of the biggest challenges being faced by farmers today with plenty of advice on offer around navigating them and it will be great to have Adam join us this year, having supported his ground-breaking podcast. His experience in the rural sector, both as a farmer and as a broadcaster gives him a truly unique perspective on modern farming and the opportunities available to help agricultural businesses really step forward.”
