What motivated you to become a lawyer?

It was a slightly unexpected turn of events really. I had hoped to play rugby a little longer but that all came to an end at Pontypool Park. Luckily my parents had always encouraged me to study and law seemed like a good fit as its really about interacting with people.

What area of law do you specialise in?

I’m a corporate lawyer, which essentially means I spend most of my time buying and selling companies and businesses. I also help with MBOs, MBIs, EOTs and act as a sounding board for a range of commercial clients.

Standout moment that was particularly interesting?

Every corporate transaction is unique and has its own highlights. If I had to pick it would be the sale of Watson Petroleum Limited to World Fuel Services. I had acted for Watson’s for over 15 years and in that time, along with the MD, Tony Watson we had acquired over 20 downstream energy companies and businesses. The sale was the end of a journey along which I’d learned a lot and made some lifelong friendships.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

A huge cliché but I work with a wonderful team and we’re privileged to represent some exceptional clients. As ever, it’s all about the people.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Family, friends, rugby, dog, music and food. I’ll leave it you to work out the order.

If you weren't a lawyer what would you do?

I would have loved to have been a sports commentator, a travel writer or a food critic.

Name one thing that makes your life better?

Wordle.
