Two of Thrings’ Planning experts are set to speak this week at one the highest profile agriculture sector events in the country.
The National Rural Planning Conference, organised by the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants (BIAC) and sponsored by Thrings is considered among the UK’s foremost events in the field, bringing together representatives from all corners of the farming and development sectors.
This year’s event, which is taking place on Thursday, 5 October at Wittlebury Park in Northamptonshire, will see two lawyers from the Thrings Planning team contributing to the national discussion – this year on the theme “Back to Nature: Growing the rural economy in a climate friendly countryside”. A panel on the “thorny” issues in the planning world is set to be led by Alex Madden, Thrings Head of Planning and Environment, who will be chairing the discussion on conundrums ranging from the apparent collapse of plan-making to how artificial intelligence could influence planning processes and policy in years to come.
Also featuring at the conference, Rebecca Stanton, Associate in the Planning team, will be taking to the stage for the event with a speech on the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), its relevance in planning decisions and what it could mean for the short to mid-term opportunities to develop and diversify agricultural businesses and rural communities.
Rebecca will also be highlighting the new national planning support for onshore wind farms, as well as signposting for the upcoming policy consultation proposals and likely changes relevant to the agriculture sector and rural economy.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Alex Madden said: “With so much going on in the planning world right now, with the likes of the Levelling Up Bill, the new NPPF and a range of government-led consultations on a variety of topics, the opportunity for growth through farm diversification has never been so great. This year’s BIAC Conference is going to be a fascinating event.
“Thrings has been a supporter of BIAC for many years, and I am pleased we are able to continue our role as the event’s headline sponsor. The firm is well represented this year and it is great to be in a position where we can provide attendees with advice on the latest planning issues and what it all means for them.”
