Does worried livestock warrant shooting a dog?

Livestock farmers are all too familiar with the issue of dogs reeking havoc with their sheep and cattle. Beyond worrying their animals, rogue canines can cause significant physical harm to them.

There are laws protecting farmers from these attacks, for example, a dog owner found guilty of allowing their dog to worry livestock could face fines of up to £1,000.

But are farmers protected if they decide to shoot an offending dog?
