Thrings meets… Peter McShane of Appsbroker

Appsbroker left the 25th Wiltshire Business Awards a double winner. In our last Thrings Meets in honour of the awards’ silver anniversary, Peter McShane tells Kate Westbrook, Thrings partner and awards judge, how the software business could make Swindon the next ‘Google-type IT hub’.

Appsbroker provides cloud-based professional services and application development to major enterprises, including Jaguar Land Rover and Santander. “It’s a community-minded, family-owned organisation focused on doing extraordinary things with, and for, its customers, partners and staff,” explained Peter McShane, Director of Sales, Marketing and Solutions.

The over-achieving tech player is one of Google’s top UK partners. Together they are delivering transformational projects, such as using the cloud to optimise the delivery (and consumption) of high-performance computing (HPC) – a technology which is unique and attracting global attention. Appsbroker is also working with some of the world’s largest banks.

“We are always doing things we never dreamed were possible. I think ambition and mind-set are among the biggest challenges facing businesses outside of London. We never see opportunities as too big for us – we just see what we can do. If we dream that Swindon can be the next UK Google-type IT hub, then why not? There is nothing stopping us – we have the infrastructure and great people with excellent technical skills and ambition in the area,” added Peter.

Appsbroker took home the Medium-sized Business of the Year award as well as Customer & Staff Care award at the gala dinner on 10 May, also coming second in Thrings’ Outstanding Excellence category.
