New offshore trust tax laws – are you prepared?

The Government has steadily been making changes to UK tax rules affecting non-UK domiciled individuals and offshore assets/ownership structures.

As part of these changes, new laws affecting ‘non-doms’ and offshore trusts are to be brought in on 6 April 2018. The new legislation – introduced under the Finance Act 2018 – will significantly affect the UK tax treatment of distributions from offshore trusts.

With these UK tax changes just around the corner, Stuart Crippin, partner in Thrings’ Succession and Tax team, says now is the time for settlors, beneficiaries and trustees of offshore trusts to review their affairs to ensure they are organised as tax-efficiently as possible.
