The long awaited Royal Assent of the Environment Act 2021 occurred yesterday (10 November), after a 9 November debate in the House of Lords. Their Lordships agreed to the Government’s position on the outstanding points of dumping of raw sewerage in water; and the enforcement powers and independence of the Office of Environmental Protection (“the Duke of Wellington amendments”).
Receiving Royal Assent during COP26, this Act enables the start of a huge change to this country’s protection and enhancement of our natural environment and resources.
