More than 150 property experts will join members of Thrings’ South West commercial property and corporate teams at the firm’s Queen Square offices in Bath (4 October) and the Paragon in Bristol (5 and 6 October) for the seminars which are now in their eighth year.

The events, which will be chaired by Thrings’ head of commercial property, Warren Reid, will feature presentations on a range of property market-related issues by partners Ben Tarrant, Steve Schofield, Elaine Meyrick and associate solicitor, Natalia Sokolov.

Ben, who acts on transactional matters for national retailers and healthcare operators and professionals on property acquisitions and disposals, will tackle the subject of negotiating commercial leases, offering advice to delegates on how to deal with unexpected challenges around break clauses, tenant defaults, service charges and rent reviews.

Steve, who advises corporate occupiers and clients on development projects, and corporate partner Elaine, who deals with company mergers, acquisitions and various commercial contracts, will discuss joint ventures (JVs) in the context of property deals. Their presentation will look at the management and funding of JVs, common contractual mechanisms, the tax objectives and benefits, and their effectiveness at unlocking property deals.

Meanwhile Natalia, who specialises in drafting building contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties and other ancillary documentation for commercial construction and engineering projects, will outline some of the key issues, pitfalls and top tips to consider when negotiating heads of terms.
