Wednesday’s discussion will see employment law and HR experts consider whether uncertainty for EU nationals currently in the UK has affected South West businesses and if concerns about future access to labour are already impacting investment decisions in the region.
Chaired by Mike Fear, HR manager at Pittards, the event will feature a presentation by Kerrie Hunt, partner and head of employment at Thrings, who will provide legal and policy updates on the impact of the abolition of tribunal fees, new guidance on awards in discrimination claims, and the Taylor Report into the gig economy and employment status.
Joining Kerrie will be Tom Barrett, employment policy adviser at the CBI, who will lead a discussion on Prime Minister Theresa May’s migration plans and update delegates on a government consultation which is being carried out by the independent Migration Advisory Committee.
Elsewhere, the role that investment in technology, machinery and equipment can play in addressing the UK’s productivity gap will come under discussion, and how the need for businesses to work smarter and more efficiently can help maximise productivity levels.
This will be followed by a talk by Paul Wenham, managing director of Geometric Manufacturing, who will speak about his own company’s ‘productivity through people journey’ and how companies can improve competitiveness and efficiency by developing leadership and management capability.
