Penelope Munro, Partner, Private Client
Tell us a little about your work and career so far
I am a partner in the Succession & Tax team but with a particular passion for estate administration. As a former army wife, I travelled around a lot which didn’t allow me to progress very quickly in law but I worked wherever we were posted to (apart from Germany & Scotland). Following my divorce, I was able to focus on my career and moved to Thrings in 2019 and was promoted to partner in 2021.
What do you enjoy most about your job
I love the feeling of making my clients lives easier by taking a bundle of stress off them when they have just lost a loved one. They need a safe pair of hands to guide them through what can be a minefield following a death and I strive to be that for them.
What has been one of your most standout moment?
Being promoted to partner here at Thrings has to be one of them but receiving confirmation that HMRC had agreed my determination of foreign domicile has to be another. It was quite a unique case on its facts but one of my colleagues at the time said she would eat her hat if the foreign domicile was agreed. Needless to say, I arranged a cake in the shape of a hat when I received HMRC’s letter!
Tell us something about yourself that is not widely known
I applied to be cabin crew for British Airways when I couldn’t work when posted to Germany. I was rejected!
